Britons may already be aware that energy efficiency could help them to achieve cheaper gas and electricity bills, but one sector commentator has noted it may even solve the ongoing recession.
Thomas Lingard, deputy director of Green Alliance, said that creating new green jobs in the UK could help to address the issues of the credit crunch, climate change and any threats to energy security.
"Governments are thinking about where to take action [to] solve different aspects of those and it seems to us a real no-brainer that efforts should go into the solution that can solve all of those simultaneously," he added.
Mr Lingard stated that in the long run the creation of green jobs could help to get the economy back on track.
As part of this year's Budget it was announced that £375 million would be made available for energy and resource efficiency in business, public buildings and households, including £10 million for waste infrastructure.
