Pupils in the UK have been honoured for their efforts in
going green and have been rewarded with a special prize handed over by the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles awarded Currie Community High School and Ashley Primary School with the Ashden Awards' first prize in the schools category - £15,000 - which they will share.
The efforts of the children at both schools were recognised as their energy efficiency has seen the two educational establishments become greener places in which to learn.
Currie Community High School has cut its annual carbon emissions by 70 tonnes thanks to its pupils becoming increasingly energy efficient, along with the introduction of new
sustainable energy technology.
The swimming pool is now heated with solar power while a wind turbine has also been installed.
Meanwhile, Ashley Primary School has a biomass boiler, energy-efficiency lighting and solar heating.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Prince Charles said: "The major value of these awards is that they demonstrate what is possible, not only for small scale-scale projects, but what is achievable for the whole world."
