More people are considering carrying out home improvements due to the low interest they are making on their savings and the slump in the housing market.
Indeed, editor at Grand Designs Magazine Claire Barrett said that more people were keen to get out and have a go at DIY during the summer.
"That [property investment] bubble has burst and so people are staying still, looking at what they've got and actually trying to create a really nice home environment to live in," she added.
Ms Barrett explained that this led many to focus on creating a home for the first time, rather than trying to increase the value of the house.
With this in mind, Britons may wish to consider home improvements which utilise renewable energy.
Such options can include
ground and air source heat pumps, solar panels or wind power, all of which convert renewable sources of energy into heat for a home.
