Some Britons may be looking forward to hitting the road in their caravan this summer in an effort to save money on their holidays, but such people have been advised to make sure their gas appliances are safe first.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has recommended that those either living or holidaying in caravans should make sure they take basic safety precautions.
Speaking to the Flintshire Chronicle, Richard Fairhead, senior fire safety manager, stated that it was important such vehicles were well ventilated and that no vents were blocked as this could prove fatal.
This is because a faulty gas appliance could leak carbon monoxide into the space - which can be fatal when inhaled - or lead to an explosion.
Turning off gas and electrical appliances when not in use and fitting a smoke and a
carbon monoxide alarm were also recommended by the fire officer.
UK homeowners should also ensure that when having their gas appliances serviced they contact a Gas Safe
TM registered engineer.
