The UK has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to match or exceed the
wind power developments of other European countries, one sector commentator has claimed.
And Helena Wright, renewable energy advisor for British Eco Energy, asserted that the country was in a positive position to achieve this as it had high wind speeds and a number of suitable sites for utilising wind power.
"We need to accept wind turbines are a viable and sustainable way of producing energy in the UK and have great potential," she urged.
The representative went on to note that developing wind farms could also boost the country's economy and help to create new jobs, which may be particularly valuable as unemployment rates continue to rise.
Her comments follow the news this week that the Department for Energy and Climate Change hopes to see wind power contributing a further 25 gigawatts of power to the National Grid.
