Although some consumers may be putting off plans to purchase a new
gas boiler during the ongoing credit crunch, one sector commentator has claimed the device could pay for itself in the long run.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said that her advice to homeowners in achieving cheaper
gas and electricity bills was to focus on energy efficiency.
She added that this meant using the lowest amount of energy possible.
And Ms Robinson noted that a new energy efficient
gas boiler may make enough savings on annual utility bills for the money to be re-invested into new energy efficiency measures, "so that you reap even greater rewards in the future".
Purchasing a new
gas boiler could be classed as a home improvement, as it may increase the value of a property.
And recent research by Legal & General revealed that home improvements are an expense only 28 per cent of households are willing to reduce their expenditure on.
