Britons are increasingly looking to improve energy efficiency in their kitchens by investing in green appliances, it has been noted.

According to Which?, environmentally friendly kitchens are proving to be a popular feature in UK households.

And a survey by kitchen store Sigma 3 reveals that the must-have items in the kitchen for homeowners this year have been energy saving washing machines and dishwashers, achieving 25 per cent of the vote.

Such appliances could also help consumers to achieve cheaper electricity bills.

Commenting on the findings, Paula Morris, from Sigma 3, said: "A few years ago, we thought that hi-tech gadgets in the kitchen such as integrated entertainment systems would really take off, but now we are seeing more demand for eco-friendly gadgets."

She added that the spaces were now becoming as much about conservation as conversation.

Katie Keegan, editor of Ethical Pulse, recently stated that consumers needed to have more information made available to them of the green credentials of the product manufacturers they were interested in purchasing from.
