As people look for ways to cut back on their spending during the recession, it has been revealed that home improvements are not something that consumers wish to sacrifice.
Indeed, research by Legal & General reveals that only 28 per cent of Britons are willing to abandon their home improvement plans.
This is in comparison to the 30 per cent who are considering missing out on a overseas break, the 42 per cent who have stopped eating out and the 49 per cent who are economising on their weekly shop.
Garry Skelton, marketing director at Legal & General's general insurance business, noted that the majority of people were feeling the pinch and that this was clear from the "number of people looking to save money across all aspects of their home life".
With this in mind, Britons may find that achieving
cheaper gas and electricity bills helps to ease their budgets.
And energy efficiency could be one way to achieve this, with the Energy Saving Trust advising switching off appliances which are not in use and improving
insulation.
