Homeowners advised to 'boost kerb appeal'

Britons can maximise the kerb appeal of the property they wish to sell by first looking at its exterior, one sector commentator has claimed.

Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, said that design was not just a subjective matter and that anyone hoping to sell their home in the current climate should take time to consider any improvements they planned to make.

"Anyone looking to maximise the kerb appeal of their home would do well to take a good look at the exterior and consult an expert opinion if they find design difficult to master themselves," she explained.

Ms Griffiths added that while the inside would be seen as a blank canvas that could easily be redecorated by any potential buyers, many would not be able to overlook an unattractive property facade.

Improving the energy efficiency of a property in order to achieve cheaper gas and electricity bills may also be advisable, after Nationwide claimed that green issues were likely to have an increasing impact on house prices in the future.
