'Keeping warm' in new conservatories

Conservatories can be enjoyable places to sit and enjoy views of the garden during the summer, but Britons have been reminded to consider how they will heat such a room in order to get further use out of it in the winter months.

Kate Watson-Smyth, in an article for the Independent, stated that more Britons were currently making the decision to improve their homes rather than move.

And she added that a conservatory could be the perfect addition during the summer.

However, the writer advised using stone floors, which could be cooler in the winter, allowing Britons to turn off their electric fans and benefit from cheaper electricity bills.

Furthermore, such flooring could be a good conductor of underfloor heating in the winter.

"Ah yes - the heating. That is the biggest issue for the conservatory, with many people dismissing them as too cold in winter and too hot in summer," Ms Watson-Smyth added.

Conservatories may be a valuable addition to a home as according to Nationwide, increasing floor space can boost the value of a property.
