Last month, the average number of house hunters registered with estate agencies across the UK was listed as 299, new research has found.
According to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), this equates to four potential buyers to every house currently on sale.
Furthermore, it was an increase from April's figures, which saw 265 buyers listed, while in May 2008 the figure was 247.
In addition, the research noted that the average estate agent had 69 properties on its books.
Commenting on the figures, Gary Smith, president of the NAEA, said: "With mortgage interest rates at historically low levels and prices now far more realistic than in previous years, home ownership in the UK seems to be set to lead the way out of the recession."
He added that the findings were "good news" for both the housing market and the economy.
With this in mind, Britons may wish to focus on energy efficiency.
Research by Nationwide recently asserted that
green issues were likely to play an increasingly important role in property values in the future.
