While owning their own home may still feel like a distant dream for many young Britons, one sector commentator has claimed that now is a "great" time to buy.
Paul Broadhead, head of mortgage policy at the Building Societies Association, said that housing was now more affordable, while mortgage rates were historically low.
He added: "For those first-time buyers in the fortunate position where they have got parents who can help them out with deposits it's a great time for them."
Mr Broadhead's comments come as Halifax reports that housing is at its most affordable level since January 2003.
Indeed, the research revealed that the proportion of local authorities in the UK where housing is affordable for first-time buyers has more than trebled since 2007.
However, Britons on the search for a new property may wish to take advice from the Energy Saving Trust.
The group states that double glazing, a condensing boiler and adequate
insulation are all factors that could keep energy bills low, allowing homeowners to begin
saving power.
