Rather than throwing their belongings out and replacing them, more people in the UK are looking to make do and mend.
Such is the assertion of Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, who said similar thinking could also be applied to property ownership.
He added that people were certainly "looking to improve their homes and looking to spend a bit of time themselves doing it".
His comments are reflected by recent research from Unbiased.co.uk, which revealed 13 per cent of Britons were saving money for home improvements.
Furthermore, eight per cent of property owners hoping to carry out home improvements wanted to increase the value of their property.
Such figures could inspire homeowners to invest in a new
gas boiler, which could result in
cheaper gas bills in the future.
The Energy Saving Trust recommends that a condensing boiler can see energy bills being reduced by £275 a year.
