Building material firm applies for wind turbine

A company that produces breeze block from the recycled ash of coal power stations is to power its production facility with wind.

H+H, manufacturer of "aircrete" and an energy company are to apply for permission to put up a two megawatt wind turbine at the Pollington factory in East Yorkshire.

The wind turbine, which will be the equivalent of enough to power 1,500 homes, will provide the factory with electricity directly as well as being wired into the grid to sell-off its surplus electricity.

Measuring 120 metres to the top of the blade, the wind turbine is expected to save over 2,073 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

H+H managing director Mark Oliver said: "This would offset hundreds of tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and repay our energy debt in no more than the first nine months of its 30-year expected lifespan."

We have a dedicated phone line to offer businesses advice on setting up their own wind turbines and other renewable devices in order to cut their energy bills and carbon footprint.
