Businesses 'not aware' of carbon obligation

Around 5,000 large organisations as well as schools, banks, hotels and local authorities could have to take part in an initiative to reduce their carbon emissions and boost energy efficiency, though many do not know it.

According to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), there is not enough awareness about the fact that organisations which pay over £1 million in energy bills will have to comply with the Carbon Reduction Commitment starting next year.

According to the Government, involvement in the scheme will see businesses save £1 billion by 2020, but the CBI is concerned some businesses will be caught unaware.

Dr Neil Bentley, the CBI's director of business environment said: "From next April all firms with an energy bill of more than a million pounds a year will be expected to comply with new legislation to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

"However, many companies remain unaware and unprepared for what the government's Carbon Reduction Commitment will involve, and are in for a real shock when these changes become law."

We can help businesses improve their energy efficiency, reduce their energy bills and cut their carbon dioxide emissions.
