Eco measures in shared HQ to help councils save energy

Energy efficiency measures and a new shared office are to help two councils reduce their operating costs.

Solar panels that track the sun will generate 25 per cent of the hot water for the new West Suffolk House base of the Suffolk County Council and the St Edmunsbury Borough Council.

The building will also benefit from a ground source heat pump, which will reduce energy costs and a rainwater collection system which will provide water to flush the toilets.

According to the Bury Free Press, the combination of sharing a building and energy efficiency measures could save the councils £900,000 in operating costs.

Councillor John Griffiths, St Edmundsbury Borough Council leader, said: "This exciting move makes sense for everyone. It will improve services for Council Tax payers in St Edmundsbury by providing long term savings and better, more joined up services."

We can advise businesses wishing to reduce their energy consumption and cutting their business energy bills by becoming more energy efficient or using renewable sources of heat and electricity.
