Energy efficiency is key for business, according to two Government ministers.

Ed Milliband, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, and Peter Mandelson Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform highlighted the importance of energy efficiency as part of their "vision for a low-carbon strategy".

Writing in the Times newspaper, the two Government ministers acknowledged that the financial situation made it difficult to make the decision to boost energy efficiency even though the costs could be quickly recouped in savings.

They said that the public sector would lead by example, making itself more enerfy efficient.

Already buildings used by government departments have to meet a certain energy efficiency rating.

They will be addressing a low carbon economy summit in London, along with prime minister Gordon Brown, who will say that 1.3 million people will be employed in the environmental sector by 2017.
