A wind turbine is helping a prison reduce its energy bill.

A prison is reducing its energy bills and carbon emissions by using a wind turbine to power its kitchens.

Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight has installed a 19-metre wind turbine on site.

The 15 kilowatt-rated turbine will provide renewable energy for the kitchens, which will also cater for Albany and Camp Hill prisons, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

A spokesman for the Prison Service told the publication: "As part of the Ministry of Justice’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, the new kitchen facility at Parkhurst includes a wind turbine to provide an element of renewable energy.

"It will go online in the summer and should bring financial benefits, as any excess energy generated will be sold back to the national grid."

We can help businesses looking to cut their energy bills and carbon emissions with assistance with setting up wind turbines.
