Businesses interested in installing wind turbines at their facilities can now use a tool to establish how much
electricity they are likely to generate.
Given recent reports that small scale wind turbines are not effective in all situations, the Carbon Trust has launched an online tool to help clear up confusion.
Using 30 years' worth of data from 220 weather stations, the online tool estimates the wind yield at any site.
Unlike previous modelling systems, the new tool also uses land use information, which can affect wind yields, particularly in built-up areas.
One of our partner firms, small wind turbine manufacturer Iskra, has welcomed the tool.
Chief executive Pete Allen said: "This will reduce time spent on site visits and so speed up feasibility studies saving Iskra and the customer time and money."
We can also provide further advice to businesses wishing to install wind turbines as well as other renewable energy technologies.
