Homeowners who rely on coal and are claiming benefits will be eligible for a new scheme which provides free hot water and
central heating.
Some households in vulnerable communities will be able to take part in the
HeatPlant pumps initiative, which is worth up to £11,500.
The system works by drawing water and natural heat from deep underground and offers a cheaper and greener alternative to fuels such as coal.
Mike Newell, our low carbon manager, said we are very pleased to be offering this new service.
"Not only will it enable us to offer another valuable option to customers who are currently coal heated, we hope it will bring local communities together while benefiting the surrounding environment," he stated.
The scheme is to be offered to those homes which rely on electric, oil, or LPG heating.
Households can reduce their heating and hot water bills by two-thirds as well as cutting carbon dioxide emissions by as much as three quarters by using the initiative.
