School wind turbine powers half of computers

A wind turbine installed at a school is to provide enough electricity to power half its computers.

The six kilowatt device, installed at the front of Sheringham High School is expected to provide three per cent of the school's electricity.

Funding was secured by the school's Eco Team and was provided in part by the Government's Low Carbon Building Programme scheme.

George Phillips, a student on the Eco Team said the 9,000 kilowatt hours a year the turbine is expected to generate would power half the schools computers.

Headteacher, Tim Roderick, said: "Students and staff in the Eco Team have worked very hard to raise the funds to get the wind turbine built. Global warming and rising sea levels threaten future generations in particular and it's wonderful that our students have been in the forefront of such an important initiative."

We have worked with the Partnership for Schools to design, develop and install low carbon energy solutions that help schools reduce their carbon, their energy bills and educate children on future sources of energy.
