Carbon dioxide emissions from the European power generation sector have fallen, according to a new report.
Even as energy generation increased, the amount of carbon emitted by the sector declined, claims the study from New Carbon Finance.
While the European energy sector generated 0.3 per cent more than in 2007, its carbon emissions dropped by two per cent to 1.5 gigatonnes.
According to the report, there were various factors for this reduction, including an increasing use of natural gas and the development of
renewable energy technologies such as wind and hydropower.
We are developing further renewable energy projects, and we are a partner in the London Array – a one gigawatt wind farm in the Thames Estuary that will be one of the world’s largest.
As part of a government scheme we are also helping reduce the carbon emissions from households by helping customers become more energy efficient.
We can recommend installing
insulation, replacing boilers and other energy efficiency measures.
