The capture and storage of carbon is important for
business energy as we are inevitably going to be dependent upon coal in the future, one carbon capture expert has claimed.
According to Dr Jeff Chapman, chief executive of the Carbon Capture & Storage Association, carbon capture and storage is a "perfectly natural way" to remove carbon from the ground, release its energy and then return it to the ground.
The body stated that every year work in this area of fuel provision is delayed, it is postponing not just one plant, but the process of many plants being installed.
He said: "Considering that we are inevitably going to be dependant upon fossil fuels, especially coal, into the future, it really would be irresponsible to ignore that fact and the solution that carbon capture and storage brings."
Findings from the Institute for Public Policy Research revealed that CCS has the potential to cut carbon emissions from coal plants by up to 90 per cent, but the technology needed for its introduction will not be ready until after 2020.
