Our partner in the London Array wind farm has registered the largest offshore wind turbine supply agreement.
DONG Energy, with whom we are developing the one gigawatt (GW) wind farm in the Thames Estuary, has agreed to purchase 500 wind turbines from Siemens.
In total the wind turbines supplied by Siemens will have the capacity to generate 1.8GW.
The London Array, which is set to be one of the biggest offshore wind farms in the world if completed, we will install up to 271 wind turbines, each with a height of 175 metres to the tip of the blade.
The location is suitable for a wind farm because of a combination of high wind speeds, low water depth and proximity of ports for construction and maintenance work.
In total the London Array could
supply enough electricity to meet the annual needs of a quarter of the homes of Greater London.
It would also displace 1.9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
