Majority of Brits have considered renewable energy sources

New research from the Centre of Alternative Technology (CAT) revealed that 91 per cent of UK consumers have or would consider installing green energy resources such as solar panels if it would save them money.

The findings, which questioned 750 respondents, revealed that two per cent of homes currently utilise clean energy from solar power.

However, the study found that if there were more financial incentives from the government, this figure would rise to 23 per cent.

Mark Watson from CAT said: "Photovoltaic systems are one of the easiest renewable energy technologies to integrate in towns and cities, as they can be installed on roofs and building facades with minimal intrusion."

He added that the uptake of such technology is more widespread in countries such as Germany but setting the feed-in tariff at the right level could see this increase.

Meanwhile, a primary school in Wiltshire is to receive solar panels after it was awarded a £20,000 grant from the Co-operative towards their installation.
