The Crown Estate has received multiple bids from firms looking to develop
wind energy on its land.
According to the organisation, which owns the seabed and parts of the shore around the UK's coastline, 18 businesses and organisations provided it with 40 zone bids.
Crown Estate commented that the quality and range of bids is an indication of the appetite among developers to meet the targets of providing 25GW of offshore
wind energy by 2020.
Many firms entered the tendering process as alliance partners and supply chain participants while businesses from nine different countries bid.
Mike O'Brien, energy and climate change minister, said: "It is expected the UK will need to generate around 30 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020, with the majority coming from wind power.
"Such an expansion represents a massive long-term investment opportunity which has the potential to generate tens of thousands of jobs in the offshore wind sector as well as helping in the fight against climate change," he stated.
The building of turbines between Bilsthorpe and Eakring has been approved by an inspector appointed by the Hazel Blears, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
We've recently joined forces with DONG Energy and Fred Olsen Renewables to bid for Round Three offshore wind sites.
