Development that cuts energy bills rescued

A jeopardised project for buildings that would reduce energy bills for residents has been rescued.

The Bright Green Homes scheme for 47 eco-friendly homes in Sheffield's Norfolk Park suffered a setback when developer Environment Trust ran into financial difficulties due to the current economic downturn.

However regeneration group Places for People, which has already built 300 new homes in the area, stepped in to save the almost completed homes.

They feature solar panels, water-saving spray taps and insulation made from recycled rags and newspapers.

These measures are expected to reduce energy bills for new residents of the £5.2 million scheme project.

Councillor Bob McCann, the council's cabinet member for housing and sustainable, safer communities said: "It will be great to see this scheme back on track and finally finished. Sheffield needs something like this. It also shows the Council is committed to taking advantage of Government cash to provide affordable housing."

We can recommend a range of energy efficiency measures to reduce energy bills.

As well as advice on installing boilers and solar thermal water heaters we can help customers take advantage of government offers of free insulation.
