Technologies that could reduce energy consumption and domestic bills have received support from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).

The Government funded body announced that it would put £3 million into researching technologies such as energy-efficient, low cost windows and low cost external wall insulation.

A further £3 million will be invested by the companies taking part in the scheme, which aims to boost energy and water efficiency both in new homes and existing ones.

Richard Miller who leads the TSB's Low Impact Building Innovation Platform, said: "The Government has set industry a huge challenge – to reduce net carbon emissions to zero for new houses from 2016, and for new non-domestic buildings by 2019.

"To meet that challenge, and to improve the environmental performance of existing buildings, we need innovative designs, products and systems."

We can recommend a variety of measures to improve the environmental performance of homes and reduce household's energy bills.

Among them are installing double glazing, insulation and solar thermal water heating.
