Heetseeker tracks down heat-wasting homes

Insulation will be recommended to homeowners whose properties are found to be leaking heat.

A so-called Heatseeker vehicle will be patrolling the streets in north Hampshire using thermal imagery to establish which homes are wasting energy.

Heating the building is one of the most energy intensive processes in the home and residents of poorly insulated buildings could be wasting £1 in every £3 they spend on heating, according to the Times newspaper.

To help residents cut their heating bills and carbon dioxide emissions, the Hart District Council has teamed up with the Energy Saving Partnership to send the Heatseekers into the community.

Households identified as poorly insulated will be given advice on reducing their heat loss.

Hart’s Environment Cabinet Member, councillor Stephen Parker commented: “In these days of gloom and despondency it is nice to be able to offer some good news. While we are all experiencing some difficult times this initiative may help some of our residents save not only their carbon footprint but real cash as well.”

We can offer households advice on reducing heat loss as well as making their home more energy efficient. An efficient boiler will also create significant savings of energy bills and carbon emissions.
