Londoners emit less carbon dioxide per person than the UK average, according to a new report.
Smaller homes, greater density and the use of public transport mean that the capital's residents have smaller carbon footprints than rural dwellers, according to the report from the International Institute for Environment and Development.
"Although the concentration of people, enterprises, vehicles and waste in cities is often seen as a 'problem', high densities and large population concentrations can also bring a variety of advantages for ... environmental management," Reuters quoted the report as saying.
While London as a whole contributed eight per cent of the UK's total emissions, the report found its residents emitted almost half the national average.
The seven million people in the capital are responsible for 5.18 tonnes of CO2 each a year, compared to the national average of 11.19 tonnes.
One way of reducing CO2 emissions and at the same time lower
energy bills is to improve domestic energy efficiency.
We can assist with the installation of
insulation, double glazing and boiler replacement, as well as other energy efficiency measures.
