Businesses in the UK are becoming increasingly aware of the green issues which affect them, both in the office and in their wider operations, one sector commentator has noted.
John Stewart, spokesman for The Pledge Against Airport Expansion, said: "I think there is more awareness among businesses about green issues and the surveys do tend to suggest that business people will be flying less in the future partly because [of that awareness]."
He explained that this was due in part because there were now alternatives to travel, such as video conferencing, and also that the recession was forcing firms to tighten their belts, which may lead them to reduce their travel budgets.
Companies may find that going green in the office also saves them money as
saving power by switching off lights, computers and hardware, along with turning down the central heating, could result in reduced energy bills.
However, according to statistics published by HACAN, over the next 20 years, flight numbers across the UK are predicted to rise between four per cent and six per cent.
