Whatever the size or age of a property, there are always jobs that can be carried out to boost its energy efficiency and gain
cheaper gas and electricity bills, one newspaper has asserted.
According to the Guardian, boosting energy efficiency is the more important home improvement project Britons can take on, no matter what their budget.
Indeed, the article claims that due to the abundance of scheme now available, it has never been easier to live sustainably and save money and
home energy.
Switch to save moneyThe Guardian recommends that switching can be a good place to start in living a greener lifestyle and saving money - which may include taking advantage of new deals by switching gas and electricity suppliers.
Another swap homeowners could make is in where they choose to shop, with the article recommending people buy locally in order to lower their petrol consumption.
Furthermore, Britons can look for schemes in their area that allow them to recycle items not collected by the council, while they could also donate old furniture or clothes to charity.
Saving on gas and electricity in the homeThere are also plenty of ways Britons can save money on their gas and electric bills by reducing their consumption of utilities in the home.
The newspaper advises switching off electrical items when not in use, improving the
insulation of their property and investing in timers and motion detectors for their lighting to ensure that lights are not left on in unoccupied rooms.
"By investing in a new heating system, building a vegetable patch, choosing a fuel-efficient car [...] you'll immediately improve the efficiency, comfort and quality of your home life, as well as saving money in the long-term," the Guardian adds.
Kateri Callahan, president of US-based the Alliance to Save Energy, recently claimed that spending money on improving home energy efficiency can allow consumers to see an almost immediate return on investment through cheaper gas and electricity bills.
