More people are dreaming of building their own home, new research has found, which could better allow Britons to put energy efficiency and
sustainability on the agenda.
A recent poll by ratedpeople.com revealed that 70 per cent of respondents would consider building their own home when it came to taking the next step on the property ladder.
And while this may seem like a big job to be taking on, the group notes that it holds many advantages, including the possibility of making a significant profit when the time comes to sell.
Indeed, one such advantage the firm noted was that people could design the building themselves, making sure that it is perfectly suited to their needs.
This could see them installing renewable energy technology such as solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system or an air source heat pump.
Such a move can help people to achieve
cheaper gas and electricity bills, which also reducing their carbon footprint.
Yvonne and Derrick Gow told recently the North West Evening Mail that they were currently building their own perfect retirement home, after moving out of the house they had shared for 32 years.
