Renewable energy awareness 'needs to increase'

A growth in the awareness of renewable energy could prevent more households from experiencing power blackouts, it has been claimed.

The government has warned that Britons may be set to experience power blackouts similar to those witnessed in the 1970s, as the supply of electricity could fail to meet demand at peak times.

Due to this, officials have predicted that large-scale power cuts may be evident by 2017.

However, commenting on the news, a spokesperson from British Eco Energy said the threat of energy shortages should prompt an increased awareness of renewable energy.

He added that this was also important in terms of carbon reduction and climate change.

"I don't know how tangible that threat is, but certainly it can't hurt raising the awareness of the energy issues," the representative added.

Britons can make in investment in renewable energy by fitting a ground or air source heat pump or solar panels to their property.

Such action can see them reducing their gas and electricity bills, along with their reliance on the National Grid.
