Britons who wish to achieve
cheaper gas and electricity bills through the installation of renewable energy technology may be pleased to hear that new action to help renewable energy companies connect to the national power grid is about to be taken by the government.
Energy and climate secretary Ed Miliband made the announcement, stating that it would help renewable energy projects and remove any queue of firms hoping to integrate their electricity into the grid.
Currently, over 60 GW of new generation capacity from around 200 projects, including around 17 GW from renewable energy sources, are waiting to be connected to the grid.
Commenting on the news, Neil Verlander, press officer from the Friends of the Earth, said the group wanted it to be made easier for renewable energy schemes to be able to link into the power grid.
"Clearly, we need to do something to make sure that green power can be more available to all of us," he added.
A spokesperson for British
Wind Energy Association also welcomed the proposals, stating that it would be working with the government to implement the plans.
