Homeowners may wish to make insulating their properties a priority if they wish to achieve cheaper gas and electricity bills this winter.

Indeed, online resource Ratedpeople.com has noted that insulation can also result in a higher rating on an Energy Performance Certificate, which can increase the "all-round saleability" of a property if they are planning to move.

Furthermore, the group asserted that improved insulation can allow a property to better retain warmth inside in cold periods, meaning owners can lower the amount of energy that is needed to heat a home.

Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director of Ratedpeople.com, said: "It is advisable for home owners to look at investing in insulation for their homes, as a method of improving its energy efficiency and also as a way of saving on heating bills in the long term."

Britons may also wish to consider giving their central heating systems an upgrade if they wish to achieve lower energy bills.

Indeed, the Energy Saving Trust advises investing on a condensing boiler, which it claims is the most energy efficient gas boiler currently available.
