Homeowners looking to save on their energy bills could switch to E.ON after a reduction in
gas prices was announced
E.ON announced on Tuesday (March 9th) that it was to cut its gas prices by six per cent as well as bringing in easier to understand billing for its 5.5 million customers across the UK.
According to figures,
home energy will cost the customer around £42 a year less and £26 a year cheaper than British Gas.
Around 1.9 million customers are expected to be eligible for the offer, although some people on fixed-rate plans may not qualify. Some homes also use only
electricity, meaning they do not require a mains gas supply.
Graham Bartlett, managing director of retail business for E.ON, was aware of the effect of the coldest winter in 30 years combined with the recession and said the company was delighted to have the "opportunity to now reduce prices".
The news gets better for E.ON's most vulnerable customers who use the
WarmAssist product. As of March 1st those on the plan will already be making savings estimated to be worth £57 a year to the customer.
Whilst charities and consumer groups have called for cuts, claiming wholesale price drops should make them possible, Mr Bartlett has stressed the fall in wholesale prices "is only part of the pricing story".
Indeed, far from not reducing prices, as the Guardian reported yesterday, this cut represents the third such reduction in energy prices in a year. Electricity prices were cut by nine per cent. Last March, homeowners saved 3.3 per cent on their gas prices.
Rather than settling for the reduction, Mr Bartlett reiterated the company's hundreds of millions in investment for cleaner energy which reduces carbon emissions and gives homeowners not only cheap energy but green energy.
It is an old adage that people paying their bills will not know what they are paying for. Having conducted extensive research, Mr Bartlett believes E.ON may have the solution in easier to read billing.
He added: "We've listened and our new bills have all the relevant information up front so our customers can see exactly how much energy they're using and hopefully where they can make savings."
