Loft Installation Process

Once the surveyor has approved your property for installation, an approved installer will carry out your loft insulation. The work usually takes 1-2 hours depending on the size of your property.

1.    Before the installer can lay insulation, you’ll need to clear
your loft area and leave it unboarded. Access to the loft
may be difficult, in which case remedial work will be carried
out. If this incurs additional costs, these will be quoted at
      survey stage.

2.    Rolls of insulation are laid between and across the
joists (wooden frame) in your roof space, until the depth
reaches the recommended level of 250-270mm (10'').

3.   When the weather is cold, you may find the temperature in
the loft can be significantly lower than the rest of your
house. For this reason, we also insulate the loft hatch and
the cold water pipes and tanks to prevent them from
      freezing.

4.    Your loft needs to breathe so the installer will ensure the
      space is sufficiently ventilated.

* Installing these measures will reduce your heating bills and we calculate that this could be as much as £80 a year for a 1940’s 3 bed semi detached home with a ten year old gas boiler and a gas price of 3.73p/kWh. More modern homes save less. Your individual savings depend on a large number of factors and the £80 quoted should be treated as a guide. Also experience tells us that many customers like to have a warmer home, making it more comfortable. This reduces the saving. But even allowing for this, insulation is a worth-while investment.
