Stoke-on-Trent

The first sustainable city agreement

 Stoke on Trent City Council

We are proudly working with Stoke on Trent City Council to help the city become one of the UK’s fully sustainable cities. It’s all about generating and delivering cheaper and more environmentally-friendly energy to the city’s businesses and local communities.

The scheme will deliver millions of pounds of investment to the city to improve the energy efficiency of homes and use green power to drive down residents’ fuel bills and help combat climate change.

As part of the Stoke-on-Trent partnership we have already:

  • Installed solar PV panels to almost 700 homes.
  • Become the founder sponsor for the Centre of Refurbishment Excellence (CoRE) which is based in the city. It provides an exhibition space and a national training facility in the techniques and materials needed to refurbish the UK housing stock to the highest modern standards.
  • Assisted the Council to secure £150,000 of funding from the National Endowment for Science technology and the Arts to assist the city develop plans to decarbonise the cities energy.

Councillor Pervez said: “We are delighted that such a major player as E.ON has come forward to show its confidence and commitment to Stoke-on-Trent. This agreement will ensure council residents benefit from cutting edge innovation and knowledge from a world-leading energy supplier.

The scheme will create local work for local suppliers and help make our city more green and attractive to businesses.”

Work in the community

We are also involved in community projects which include:

  • Resources and energy monitors given to St Joseph’s RC Primary School.
  • Met with Head Teacher and Eco Club co-ordinator at Weston Coyney infant school to discuss working with the whole community and an energy awareness event.
  • Sponsored and attended the ‘Low Carbon Scholl Showcase’ and also hosted the Insulation Challenge with approx 25 children.
