Battery
A container of metal and liquid that mix to make electricity. A battery stores electricity that can be put in things like a watch to make it work

Cable
A thick, covered wire that carries electricity

 

Circuit
A closed loop that electricity runs through

Coal
A hard black rock that we burn to give energy

Connect
When you join two or more things together

Decay
When something rots away

 

Diesel
A fuel used in tractors, lorries and some cars

Draught
When cold air comes into a room through a gap in a door or window

Electric shock
When electricity runs through the body. This can be very dangerous

 

Electricity
A type of energy that we use to make lights, computers, televisions and lots of other things work

Electricity meter
This measures how much electricity we use

Energy
A source of power that makes things work

Energy source
Something that gives energy, e.g. wind, coal, battery

Fuel
Something that is used to give something energy eg petrol is a fuel that gives cars energy

Gas
A fuel that is used to make things like cookers and fires work

 

Gas meter
This measures how much gas we use

Gas rig
This brings gas from under the sea

Non-renewable energy source
An energy source that will run out

Oil
A fuel that comes from the ground or under the sea, which is used to make things like petrol

Petrol
A fuel used in most cars

 

Pipe
A tube that carries gas

Plug
This connects a machine to an electricity source

Power station
A place that makes electricity

Pylon
This carries electricity cables high above the ground

Recycling
Reusing things like paper and glass

 

Renewable energy source
An energy source that will not run out one day

Solar panel
A device that uses sunlight to make electricity

 

Switch
This is used to turn something on or off

Unplug
This is when a plug is taken out of a wall socket

Wall socket
The small holes that you put a plug in, to connect it to electricity

 

Wind turbine
This is a machine that uses wind to make electricity

A thin thread of metal
