Wind Farm Technician

E.ON has built one of the most advanced wind farms over recent years. Could you be our first offshore apprentice?

Offshore windfarm

Duration: 4 years

Location: Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, Newhaven

What we do

The Offshore Wind Industry has seen rapid expansion over recent years with the UK leading the world in adopting this technology. E.ON is one of the foremost companies in the development and production of this key renewable energy source. Those that join us will develop specific technical skills to work on the inspection and overhaul of operational wind turbines – doing so from one of the world’s largest and most advanced wind farms. Every day, you’ll help keep the turbines turning so that we can produce the maximum amount of low carbon electricity for the UK. The advanced skills you will develop mean you will be in a fantastic position to build a long term career within E.ON’s ever expanding offshore wind business.

What you’ll do

As a Power Generation Apprentice with us, you’ll have the chance to become a specialist technician in this exciting new technology. The expertise you develop will put you at the forefront of this new area of the energy industry. As a result, you’ll be in demand not just within E.ON, but throughout the whole energy sector. Based at our world leading wind farm in the UK, you’ll travel offshore to help keep the turbines turning and the UK supplied with the maximum amount of low carbon electricity. Working closely with our team of talented technicians, you’ll develop the skills to inspect and overhaul operational wind turbines and their supporting equipment. The apprenticeship is built on a foundation of basic practical skills and a broad theoretical understanding combined with practical hands on offshore site experience. In your first two years, you’ll be working towards a BTEC qualification, developing a wide range of general engineering skills and learning about specific power generation equipment. After that, you’ll be based at E.ON’s latest offshore wind farm; a site that’s currently under construction in Newhaven. Whilst gaining an NVQ, your days will be spent travelling out to our offshore facilities with a close knit team, to keep our turbines turning, and to maximise the amount of low carbon energy we’re producing. You’ll become so familiar with the workings of all of the latest equipment, systems and processes that, by the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll be absolutely invaluable.

What we’re looking for

This is an apprenticeship for someone with a real sense of adventure and exceptional problem solving skills; you’ll need to be comfortable with heights and working at sea to harness the energy of the wind. It can be an exciting and challenging environment but at the same time incredibly rewarding. Not only will you have the chance to master the intricacies of state of the art turbine equipment and get some industry qualifications under your belt, you’ll also be able to spend your days out on the open waves. So if you have a real passion to become an engineer, at least five A-C Grades at GCSE including English, Maths and Science and a strong sense of teamwork, plenty of initiative and a desire to really get stuck in, we’d love to hear from you.
