What we do

E.ON Highways Lighting business is one of the largest street lighting contractors in the country. We deliver contracts to Local Authorities and Parish Councils as well as Housing and Commercial Developers. We operate across the East and West Midlands, East Anglia, and the North West of England. We install and replace everything from street lighting to traffic signs and bollards. We also have dedicated teams that carry out repairs, fault finding and reactive and preventative maintenance on street lighting assets for these customers. We also connect the street lighting assets to the electricity network in the street, giving our customers a one stop shop installation and connection service.

What you’ll do

This is a great way to earn as you learn, receiving training with qualified craftspeople on site, as well as studying. We’ll fund a block release course at our preferred college so you can gain some useful qualifications – a Level 3 NVQ and certificate in Street Lighting along with a Level 2 Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering. While you’re in training we’ll even cover things like your accommodation, food and travel. From installing and replacing lighting columns and street furniture through to carrying out maintenance and repair work and fault finding, it’s a varied, interesting role.

What we’re looking for

You have a real interest in all things technical, you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and you know how to work hard. You’ll need five A-C level GCSEs (or equivalent) including Science, IT or Technology, plus Maths and English. If you also have a real passion for becoming a fully qualified craftsperson and you can start work in August 2015, join us. Who knows where it could take you? After all, the head of our Highways Lighting department started off as an apprentice with us.
