Holmside, Harehill and Highvolts were all commissioned in spring 2004. At the time of their constructions, these wind farms boasted the most powerful wind turbines in the UK.
A locally based company, AMEC Wind Services, developed the site and also helped manage the project during the construction phase. Construction on the site began in the summer of 2003, with the turbines being delivered to Hartlepool docks and then transported in sections to site in delivery vehicles up to 50m long in October 2003 – around the same length of five London busses!
In 2015, Holmside generated enough clean energy to supply nearly 3,000 homes.*
