How much is a boiler service?

Not only is having a service once a year good sense, it’s usually a requirement in maintaining your guarantee. If your boiler breaks down, you need to prove that it has been professionally serviced in the last 12 months. If you can’t, your guarantee won’t be valid and you won’t be covered for the cost of repairs, which can be hundreds. So it makes sense to pay for a boiler service. There is no fixed price as it depends on the cover you have and problems found during the service. 

If you don’t have any cover, you’ll have to pay for a one-off boiler service. These can cost around £60-£120 (in London it tends to be more expensive) and usually take about an hour. They should include flue tests and you’ll be given a certificate afterwards. Any fixes to your boiler, including labour and parts, will come at an additional cost.

To avoid high repair costs, you can take out boiler cover for your existing boiler. This means that rather than a one-off fee for a boiler service, it’s often included in your policy. While the cost of a one-off service tends to be less than £100, there are situations where it could cost more. For example, an issue which will stop your boiler passing safety standards.

As part of our service plan, you also get a manufacturer’s parts and a labour guarantee too. This means there’ll be no extra costs for repairs needed during your boiler service. The same applies if you have the boiler cover option through HomeServe; if they can’t repair your boiler, they will replace it, so long as you’ve had cover for at least six months. If your boiler is fewer than seven years old they’ll install a new one free of charge too.

Overall, whilst a one-off service may appear cheaper than boiler cover, it doesn’t protect you from the unexpected costs if your boiler runs into problems, potentially making it a lot more expensive in the long-term.
