EV charging stations for schools

The UK government is committed to reaching Net Zero by 2050 and within its sights for decarbonisation are public sector buildings, including schools and colleges.

There are many benefits to being an environmentally conscious place of learning. Institutions with green credentials attract more staff; renewable energy generation can contribute money to the school budget; and it's easier to teach the next generation about greener futures. As a result, EV charging stations are becoming increasingly visible in school car parks, where having charging infrastructure puts you ahead of other institutions and shares a positive message about your commitment to the climate.

Whatever type of electric vehicle is driven by faculty staff, E.ON can support you with the installation of EV infrastructure at your site(s), help you unlock government funding of up to £2,500 per charger, provide 24/7 support, and even spread the cost of your investment over a period that suits you.

Funding your school's EV charging infrastructure

Schools, colleges, and academies can take advantage of schemes managed by the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), like the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS), which can save up to 75% on the installation of new charge points on a school's property, including VAT. By providing up to 40 charging stations at a maximum cost of £350 each, your facilities will be eligible for up to £14,000 in funding to set up a charging infrastructure for their employees, parents, students, and guests.

See also the Workplace Charging Scheme specifically for state-funded education institutions, which offers greater savings for state school EV installations.

E.ON offers flexible payment options, so you can forecast in line with your school's budget. The government has also announced a raft of EV incentives, which include a salary sacrifice scheme specifically for those in the education sector.

Making schools more sustainable

Drive towards a more sustainable future with EV charging infrastructure from E.ON. To minimise disruptions during or outside of the school year, we provide flexible installation options, with our install team working out of school hours as well as in the summer holidays.

You will be in good hands with us, a partner that you can rely on with our round-the-clock 24/7 support line as well as ongoing software updates to ensure your equipment is secure and working efficiently.

Want to go even more green? We can work with your school to install solar panels, heat pumps, and more. Generating your own electricity is great for sustainability targets, saves money and could even generate extra cash for your school.

Chargers for business

Our commercial EV chargers

Whether it's setting up workplace chargers for staff members, a station of fast charging commercial units for clients, or the infrastructure to support an EV fleet, we have a range of solutions to fit a variety of budgets.  We provide quick, rapid, and ultra-fast chargers, so you can use the E.ON booster to charge a medium-sized EV in as little as 18 minutes or in just 3 hours using a 7kW charger.2.

How much do electric vehicle charging points for business cost?

The cost of your EV charging solution will depend on the number and type of chargers you’re looking to install for your commercial electric vehicles. Our prices start at £2,444 for the Vestel 7kW single wall mounted unit. This includes installation (assuming 20m of cable), and our operation and maintenance package for 3 years.

Can I use existing parking bays for EV charging points?

It’s worth being aware that a little more space will be required – you’ll need to allow 1.2 metres between every two spaces for the charge point.

How many commercial EV charging points can be installed?

The size of electrical supply to your premises will determine the number and type of electric car chargers which can be installed, this is provided by your local power distributor.

Do I need rapid EV chargers?

Often, workplace staff car charging or back-to-base fleet vehicles are parked in the same spot across several hours which will allow you to opt for one of our cost-effective chargers delivering a charge across a suitable timeframe, so the vehicle is ready in time for its next use.

Can I restrict the users of commercial EV charging stations?

Yes, we can restrict access to certain private users if required. Each session has to be authenticated, so authorised drivers would have to be given access and the charging session authenticated before a charge can be started. This can be done via the App, RFID or PAYG.

What if I don’t have enough capacity for workplace electric vehicle charging?

If you don't have capacity for workplace electric car charging there are options available to help.

You can request an increase in capacity from the DNO and if this isn’t possible we can request a new connection from the grid rather than the building but DNO would have to approve this. We can support with grid connections.

If you have limited spare capacity we can implement dynamic load balancing across the chargers to ensure the load is spread across the electric cars plugged in so it wont exceed the capacity limit for the building.
