Bringing fast-charging to UK railway stations

Growing the UK's EV charging network

We've installed almost 450 fast-chargers for Network Rail at railway stations across the UK giving commuters sustainable travel choices that support the growth of the UK's EV charging network. A further 400 will also be installed across the country giving EV drivers more choice and encouraging more drivers to switch to electric vehicles.

Simple charging on the go

The new chargers allow visitors to Network Rail car parks to benefit from a customised parking solution that combines their parking and EV charging expenses into a single fee, thanks to a partnership with technology provider Compleo Charging Solutions UK. They're also able to use the 'Connect' App from car park operator APCOA, making it simple to pay and authenticate charges from any smart phone.

Supporting sustainable travel across the UK

"

As part of our wider environmental sustainability strategy, we’re working towards delivering a low-emission railway, and supporting the move to electric and ultra-low emissions vehicles is a key part of that. We hope that by providing affordable, efficient and reliable charging points, we can encourage more electric vehicles onto the road and help promote healthier air in and around our stations.”

Jo Lewington, Network Rail’s Chief Environment & Sustainability Officer.

UK wide ambition and delivery

The project aims to provide 833 commercial EV chargers with fast-charging, 3 Phase 22kW AC units up and running at key commuter stations such as Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly and Reading. We'll also have chargers further north at Edinburgh Waverley, down south at Welwyn Garden City and in the heart of the Midlands at Birmingham New Street making this a truly UK wide project.

"

“The fast-charging, 3 Phase 22kW AC units are already live at Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly and Reading stations, and are being extended to Edinburgh Waverley, Welwyn Garden City and Birmingham New Street,”
