Lighting the streets of Staffordshire sustainably

£1.2m energy savings per year for Staffordshire County Council

Working with Staffordshire County Council to secure funding, we're going to be replacing 47,000 inefficient public lighting installations with energy efficient LED lanterns over the next 4 years. Helping the council achieve its net zero goals. We recently hit the milestone of having installed 20,000 LED lanterns.

The best thing about upgrading to LEDs is their energy efficiency is so great, that over their life time that the electricity savings will outweigh the supply, installation and maintenance costs.

Slashing electricity usage

We worked with the local authority to reduce CO2 emissions and provide energy efficient solutions providing long term benefits for the council and their residents.

These 20,000 LED lanterns have saved Staffordshire County Council 3.85 million kWh, the equivalent of 1.48 million miles driven with an electric car, or enough electricity to power 1,419 average sized houses.

The team worked hard to ensure the project would deliver cost savings for the local authority. It won’t be long until we, Staffordshire County Council and, most importantly, the communities in the project areas start to see the benefits of the lantern replacements.

Invest to save

Investing in street lighting design means the upgrades you make save not only energy but money too. We supported the council in a successful Invest to Save application, providing short-term funding to support the outset costs of the project. Invest to save funding  is available to public service organisations, helping them become more energy efficient and cost effective. This has also allowed Staffordshire County Council to take a step closer to achieving net zero.

“The invest to save programme has been and will continue to be a major benefit to us at Staffordshire County Council (SCC). SCC have a strong working relationship with E.ON and we are pleased they continue to deliver the programme, efficiently within pre-programmed cyclic inspections”

Emily Madsen, Principal Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Engineer for Staffordshire County Council.

A lasting partnership

We've been working with Staffordshire county council maintaining and replacing street lighting assets for almost 20 years. We have a rigorous maintenance scheme replacing lanterns, checking for consistent brightness and carrying out electrical tests. The strength of our partnership has driven efficiency and resulted in massive savings that will benefit the people of Staffordshire for years to come.
