Wind power reduces CO2 at Walkers

Sustainable production powered by wind

Renowned for their famous flavours, Walkers are responsible for making the most popular crisps in the UK. As a member of the PepsiCo group, their brand mates include familiar market leading names like Quaker, Pepsi Max, and Tropicana. The nearly 5,000-strong workforce are spread across 11 UK locations, including the world's largest crisp factory in Leicester and the Quaker Oats mill in Cupar, Scotland.

Walkers decided that they needed to make efforts to lower their energy consumption, aiming to be free of fossil fuels by 2023. Wind power, was identified as the best renewable energy source to help them achieve this ambitious target.

Savings that will blow you away...

Generates 4,520MWh of electricity per year

2000 tonnes of carbon saved per year

A huge contribution to Walkers achievement of 70% reduction of CO2

Supporting walkers from end to end

In order for Walkers to take a huge step towards their net zero goals, installing a wind turbine to power their West Lancashire food manufacturing plant was a crucial step.

We were able to offer a complete service to Walkers' taking responsibility for designs, supply and installation of the wind turbine.

After carrying out all the necessary surveys and public consultations the planning application was submitted in October 2011 and eventually granted in March 2013.

On time and under budget

The project was completed by our technical services team and was delivered on time, under budget and with a 100% health and safety record. Not only that, but Walkers continued to meet all its production schedules. The installation of the wind turbine will help Walkers significantly towards its goal of being a fossil fuel free business.

Partners committed to sustainable growth

PepsiCo believes that protecting the environment, sourcing with integrity and investing in its employees is not just the right thing to do, but will also position the company for long-term, sustainable growth.

Through providing a renewable energy source for this major food manufacturer we're also doing our bit to ensure that sustainable businesses can be a reality.

We continue to operate the turbine that will supply green energy to Walkers for years to come.
