Carbon emissions reduction target and ECO

Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT)

CERT is an obligation on energy suppliers to achieve targets for promoting reductions in carbon emissions in the household sector. It came into effect on April 1 2008 and will run until Dec 31st 2012.

In certain circumstances, we will be able to release CERT funding to help Registered Social Landlords to achieve carbon savings to help us to achieve our targets.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

ECO will replace CERT and CESP when they expire at the end of 2012. It will target energy efficiency and thermal efficiency. However, the exact details of size and type of property and eligible measures in the scheme are still being shaped by government.
We currently believe that EC will focus on affordable warmth consumers and “hard to treat” homes that are not eligible for funding under the Green Deal scheme, so the two schemes will work hand in hand.

See our ECO pages for more information.
