How to read your prepayment meters

Electricity meters

Every time you press the blue button on the front of your meter, the display will change on your meter. Here's what you'll see each time you press the blue button

Key meter display

B - Token charge display

Minimum credit required to reset your emergency credit

C - Time

Time (GMT) and current rate in use (only displayed if meter is 2 rate)

D - Date

Date and current rate in use (only displayed if meter is 2 rate)

E - Total credit accepted

Total credit accepted on meter since being in use

F - Total weekly charges

Standing charge and weekly fixed charge (debt repayment)

G - Total energy consumed

Total energy consumed since meter has been in use

H - Day unit reading

Rate 1 kWh register

I - Day time pence per unit

Rate 1 cost per kWh

J - Night unit reading

Rate 2 kWh register (only displayed if meter is 2 rate)

K - Night time pence per unit

Rate 2 cost per kWh (only displayed if meter is 2 rate)

Additional displays available with the key in the meter

R - Emergency credit available

Amount of emergency credit available

S - Total debt outstanding

Amount set on the meter for debt collection

T - Debt repayment rate

Weekly amount paid through the meter to pay off total debt outstanding

Make a note of what you see on display H, and display J.

Only customers with 2 rate meters will have a display J, so don’t worry if you don’t see that one.

Gas meters

Older meters usually have the reading on the front of the meter. For newer meters, press button ‘A’ until 'meter index’ is displayed on the screen – the figures next to this will be the meter reading.
